Training objectives

This Course follows a training program that has a general aim of promoting knowledge to the student the theory and philosophy behind the health professions through a moral and social ethical dimension.
HISTORY OF SCIENCE AND MEDICINE
1. Knowledge of the main stages in the history of Western medicine; 2. understanding of the origins of the biomedical paradigm, including the treatment of gender issues; 3. ability to analyze the fundamental concepts of contemporary medicine (health, disease, therapeutic relationship) in a long-term perspective
THEORY AND PHILOSOPHY OF THE SCIENCE OF REHABILITATION
Knowledge: knowing the guiding principles and the basic philosophy of rehabilitative intervention (cultural and organizational references)
Skills: formulating the rehabilitation project of the person in the integration and sharing between different professionals, according to the ICF model
SOCIAL ETHICS OF THE SCIENCE OF HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONS
The course aims to:
Learn concepts of "autonomy and proportionality" in health care and in order to specific subjects such as Information and Consent
Identify the "criteria" for the allocation of forms to be entrusted to professionals to various organizational and management categories.
Identify the choices in the field of health records according to the roles and functions performed in the organizational field
Evaluate and apply the formulas of information and training with respect to the activity tutorial supervision
ORGANIZATIONAL MODELS OF PSYCHIATRIC REHABILITATION
Learn the organizational models of the Department of Mental Health to research light in recent years: the models of disability, the consequences of mental illness, major biopsychosocial EB treatments.
MEASURES OF PROCESS AND OUTCOME IN REHABILITATION
The course aims to learn how to verify the quality of the rehabilitation process and how to make and use rehabilitation quality indicators.
Use tools of applications (Excel sheet) to synthesize and present the information collected.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY IN HEALTHCARE
Knowledge and understanding of the main study designs. Knowledge and understanding of medical statistics. Knowledge and understanding of the potential bias of the various types of studies.
ORGANIZATIONAL MODELS OF PSYCHIATRIC REHABILITATION
Knowledge of the main clinical pictures which refer to the DSM by age groups (children area, adults area).
Knowledge of general organizational model clinic. Day hospital, rehabilitative residence ward., ecc.
MEASURES OF PROCESS AND OUTCOME IN REHABILITATION
Microsoft Excel standard ability

Course programme

HISTORY OF SCIENCE AND MEDICINE
Origins of western medicine and medical ethics; the transition from modern medicine to contemporary biomedicine; the evolution of the curator-patient relationship
THEORY AND PHILOSOPHY OF THE SCIENCE OF REHABILITATION
Cultural and organizational references of rehabilitation medicine. Guidelines (1998) and Address Plan (2011). ICIDH (1980) and ICF (2001). The philosophy of rehabilitation. Evolutionary phases of a disabling injury, type and guide criteria of the rehabilitation interventions.
The take-over in rehabilitation medicine. Structural rehabilitation project. Rehabilitation team. For team work tools: team meetings (oral communication) and integrated folder (written communication).
The intra, inter professional communication and with the family. Individual rehabilitation plan, intervention programs and objectives. Global and functional outcome.
Levels of care (intensive and extensive rehabilitation) and organizational levels (I, II, III level) in rehabilitation medicine. Evolutionary phases of a disabling injury, general criteria of choice of the type of setting and organizational structure of reference. Care pathways.

Discussion of specific topics and current affairs for the growth of the professional
Concept of medical procedure and medical act
Patient autonomy regarding the availability of the right
Professional autonomy in respect of the proportionality of the act
Concept of consent formally expressed
Health records in the evolution of the digital age
Strategic aspects of the tutorial function
ORGANIZATIONAL MODELS OF PSYCHIATRIC REHABILITATION
An outline of the history of psychiatry and related organizational models.
From the medical model to the biopsychosocial model of disability.
The integrated model of mental health services
MEASURES OF PROCESS AND OUTCOME IN REHABILITATION
Rehabilitation quality indicators: some examples. Making or choosing an indicator in order to capture the difference we make. How to understand the information behind an indicator.
Data management using Microsoft Excel.

Didactic methods

Frontal lessons, class discussion and group work. Self-managed exercise.

Learning assessment procedures

HISORY OF SCIENCE AND MEDICINE
Written test composed of several multiple choice questions and some open questions
THEORY AND PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENCE OF REHABILITATION.
Written test: 26 structured questions with multiple answers (5 answers 1 correct) and one open-ended question
Scoring criteria: 1 point for the correct answer to the quiz, 0 for incorrect or not given, 0-5 points for the open-ended questions
Evaluation criteria: correctness, completeness and synthesis in the language.
Given time: maximum one hour
SOCIAL ETHICS OF THE SCIENCE OF HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONS: written work to free choice of three topics covered during the course. The assessment will be based on the quality of answers submitted.
ORGANIZATIONAL MODELS OF PSYCHIATRIC REHABILITATION
Presentation to the group of a paper on the topic agreed (prepared in small group) Average time 1 hour +1/2
Evaluation criteria: clarity, practical application skills, creativity
MEASURES OF PROCESS AND OUTCOME IN REHABILITATION
Written work on creating a process or a outcome rehabilitation quality indicator . Maximum two hours.
THE FINAL GRADE IS A WEIGHTED AVERAGE OF THE MARKS OBTAINED IN EACH TESTS.
