Training objectives
- The objective of this optional course is to improve the knowledge necessary for the multidisciplinary clinical and rehabilitative management of patient with impaired visual abilities, expanding the issues already addressed by the student during the I semester of the III year of the Study Program in the Discipline of "Orthoptic rehabilitation". In particular, the training objectives focus on the learning of visual rehabilitation strategies dedicated to patients with different levels of disability (low-vision, partial or total blindness) using optical, electronic and / or typhlologic aids. The main acquired knowledge will specifically concern the ocular diseases causative of low-vision or blindness. The main skills acquired will identify the most advanced systems used for rehabilitation of central vision and peripheral vision also using bio-feedback strategies.
Prerequisites
- Notions of anatomo-physiology of the visual system.
Course programme
- The module includes 12 hours of lectures. Review of the anatomy and physiology of the eye and, in particular, of the retina and optic nerve, utilization of vision aids and rehabilitation strategies of visual impairments, simulated clinical cases of visual rehabilitation.

Learning assessment procedures
- Oral examination (20 minutes), testing the ability of correlating different concepts related to the matter, rather than the capability of facing the specific topics tackled in the course. A score of at least 18/30 is necessary to pass the exam.
