Training objectives
- deepen the student's knowledge on methods of laboratory analysis necessary to get the athlete biological passport, for monitoring training and for detection of doping substances
Prerequisites
- concepts of biochemistry
Course programme
- Routine clinical tests for the athlete - CBC, serum iron, ferritin, BUN, Creatinine, blood uric acid, total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol, transaminases (GOT and GPT), blood glucose, triglycerides, calcium, magnesium. Influence of drugs, supplements, nutrition, race or heavy training on the results of the analysis.
Description of the clinical analyzes planned for the athlete biological passport (ABP) - The blood module(hematocrit, hemoglobin, erythrocyte count,% reticulocytes, reticulocyte count, mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration).
Doping and anti-doping - Prohibited substances. Physiological and synthetic substances stimulator of the production of red blood cells EPO (rHuEPO, Dynepo, Aranesp). The main strategies currently used in anti-doping test for EPO. Direct analysis of performance-enhancing drugs. The test survey of rhEPO approved by WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency): electrophoretic methods (IEF, SDS-PAGE) and immunoassays (ELISA, MAIIDA). Procedures for the detection of gene doping. Indirect anti-doping tests: the OFF-hr Score (OFFS) and Abnormal Blood Profile Score (ABPS). Biomarkers of suspected blood transfusion: the analysis of phthalates in the urine. The module steoideo in search of testosterone and its derivatives: T / A, A / E and 5a/5ß. The endocrinological module for detection of the growth hormone. Emerging OMICS technologies: transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and genomics. Didactic methods

Learning assessment procedures
- The exam consists of an oral examination of about 30 minutes, in which the student will have to answer 5 questions on the topics covered in the course. The evaluation will take into account the clarity, accuracy of responses and the ability to link together the various topics.
