Training objectives
- The main educational objective of the course is to transfer students the elements to understand the basis upon which to develop a physical activity program aimed at improving the functioning of the venous system of the lower limbs.
Students are led through a cognitive and learning process starting from the physiology and pathophysiology of venous return in the lower limbs up to the essential elements of the clinic, diagnosis and treatment of chronic venous insufficiency with the specific aim of providing them the rationale for applying their specific skill. Particular emphasis is given to the relationship between muscular pump and venous hemodynamics,
At the end of the course students will learn the fundamentals of venous hemodynamics of lower limbs, the principles of venous disease, how to measure the flows and the effects of a treatment. They should be able to demonstrate their understanding of the rationale aimed to correctly define and manage physical activity-based programs for prevention and treatment of chronic venous insufficiency of the lower limbs. Prerequisites
- Basic knowledge of the anatomy of the lower limbs.
Course programme
- The course is structured in 24 hours of teaching. In particular, the program includes the following contents:
- Anatomical bases of the venous system of the lower limbs
- Fundamentals of venous hemodynamics with particular regard to the action of valve-muscular pumps
- Pathophysiology of chronic venous insufficiency
- Clinical, diagnose and treatment of chronic venous insufficiency
- Compression therapy and patient’s educational programs
- Methods do measure peripheral flows
- Sports and chronic venous insufficiency
- Sports therapy and chronic venous insufficiency Didactic methods
- The course includes theoretical and practical lessons, for groups when necessary.
Learning assessment procedures
- The exam is in written form structured in multiple-choice questions, lasting 30 minutes. At least 30% of correct answers are requested to pass the test. The final assessment depends on the number of correct answers given by the student, according to a progression clearly listed. In case of failure or refusal of the score, the examination will be repeated orally with questions aimed to evaluate the knowledge, understanding and critical capacity of the student towards the topics covered during the course.
