Training objectives
- The course is aimed to give basic knowledge of human bio-diversity, its origin and the methods used for its analysis, with application in Ergonomics field. The course will provide basic knowledge about individual morphometric characters and the possibility to measure them. Morphometric parameters are also useful to identify physical attitudes towards specific sports and customize training methods.
Prerequisites
- none
Course programme
- Historical background.
The laboratory of Anthropometry: instruments; methods; data analysis.
Planes, landmarks and measurements: basic list; selection; sequence; recording.
Anthropological variability (origin and trends in contemporary human populations).
Stature, Body weight, BMI.
Morphometric traits of different body regions.
Body composition. Somatotype. Main functional anthropometric parameters. Anthropometry and perception of body image.
Ergonomics issues related to body size. Application of anthropometry to sport. Didactic methods
- The course includes:
-Frontal lectures. Where possible, the lecture is interactive. Questions to the students aim to stimulate reasoning skills and support a dynamic acquisition of concepts.
-Exercises in the laboratory of anthropometry. The students, divided into groups, will learn to use the necessary tools for measurements and measurement techniques.
-Exercises in the computer lab for statistical analysis of the acquired data Learning assessment procedures
- About at the middle of the course, attending students are given the opportunity of a written evaluation based on 20 multiple-choice quizzes (3 possible answers) or on simple calculations.
Those who pass the test may support the proper written exam at the end of the course. This is based on 18 open-ended questions (4-rows till to 1 page available), multiple-choice quizzes or calculations.
During the written exams students are not allowed to consult texts or use PC, smart phone, etc. Only calculators are permitted.
Who is not within the criteria stated above, or who prefer, can take an oral examination (proposed appeals). This is based on three main questions on all the topics covered, but in particular on anthropometric techniques. The average duration is about 30 min.
In the evaluation of the finals clarity, precision, ability to reason and to make connections among the items proposed will be appreciated Reference texts
