Training objectives
- This course aims to promote the acquisition of the basic principles of biochemistry in order to know in depth the metabolic processes that characterize physical activity
Prerequisites
- The student should have basic knowledge of chemistry, physics, mathematics, cellular biology, human anatomy and the fundament of biological sciences.
Course programme
- Structure and function of proteins, myoglobin, hemoglobin and oxygen transport. The adaptation to the quota. The membrane: channels, transporters, receptors.Energy metabolism: ATP and its production. Carbohydrate metabolism: glycolysis, lactic fermentation, alcoholic fermentation, citric acid cycle, pentose phosphate pathway, glycogen, gluconeogenesis. Respiratory chain and oxidative phosphorylation. Lipid metabolism. Protein metabolism, amino acids and related molecules. Nucleotide metabolism, metabolic regulation. Metabolic integrations and specific metabolic activities of the organs.
Didactic methods

Learning assessment procedures
- The exam consists of two partial tests, written and oral. The written test will take place remotely in compliance with the precautions due to the pandemic, but it can be transformed into a written test in presence starting if the conditions of the pandemic allow it. The written test consists of a quiz of 30 questions (30 minuts), with 5 possible answers, one of which is correct, without subtracting the grade. Students who have passed the written test with sufficient evaluation will be admitted to the oral exam (2-3 questions). The final grade will depend on the outcome of both tests.
