Training objectives
- The course aims to present the main genetic knowledge of mitochondria, the role of mitochondrial genes in the normal and dysregulated cell. The goal is to provide the student with the fundamentals of the molecular genetics of mitochondria and their products to recognize the main activities in the normal cell and how the mutations of mitochondrial genes lead to an altered phenotype
Prerequisites
- Principles of general and cellular biology, and of general and molecular genetics
Course programme
- Mitochondria genes and gene products. The genetic code employed by mitochondria and mitochondrial proteins. Control of genetic expression. Biological activities of mitochondrial genes / proteins. Comparison between phenotype of normal cell and altered cell.
Didactic methods
- Lectures and thematic seminars
Learning assessment procedures
- 17 Multiple choice questions with 5 answers, with only correct.
