Training objectives

The course aims to introduce the components of the motor and/or sporting performance, the principles and methods required to schedule a training according to the specific targets to be achieved. To organize the scientific knowledge on the training effects and to finalize the training technique to sports and pre-sport activities. To schedule the workout in the short, medium and long-term, for young, adult and mature people.
At the end of the course students will be able to select and use the appropriate methods and means, differentiating exercises and workloads according to the specific needs of the subject depending on the training goals, both in the sporting performance and in the physical exercise for health and well-being.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of the basic elements of sport and exercise physiology, basic knowledge of the anatomy and the main physiological mechanisms underlying sports performance.

Course programme

The Course “Theory and methodology of Training” focuses on the study of the general aspects of the training, for general and specific applications.
Main topics: The basics of the scientific method for athletic training and Analysis of training process organization; the concept of fitness and the short, medium and long-term training cycles. The qualitative and quantitative parameters of the training workloads (progressiveness, stimulus, frequency, volume, duration, intensity and density). The concept and methods of study and analysis of the movement (biomechanics) based on motor skills with the relevant scientific evidence. The components of performance: definitions, classifications and training methods (conditional skills: Strength, Endurance, Speed and Quickness, Flexibility, Coordination skills). The main theoretical concepts, techniques and methods of motor skills training, and their change during the course of ages. Definitions and classifications of sports. The technical and tactical skills in sport: basic concepts. Sports training for young people. Training activities during the mature age. Historical notes on training methodology.

Didactic methods

Lectures and practical lessons held in the weight room and gym

Learning assessment procedures

The examination consists of two tests for which the evaluation will be calculated through the average mathematics, will consist of:
A written test formulated in the following way:
- 10 questions: 5 multiple choice questions with only one correct answer, and 5 open-ended questions, where each correct answer is worth 3 points
- One Open-ended questions, where each correct answer is worth 30 points.
