To learn the most common methods of functional performance assessment.
To be able to choose the appropriate methods depending on the population under study.
To be able to perform the most common functional tests. Prerequisites
- Knowledge of basics of human functional anatomy, physics, applied exercise biochemistry and physiology. Knowledge of the energy sources for muscular exercise and of the fundamental elements of exercise physiology.
Course programme
- General explanations and exam instructions. Quick test on previous knowledge. Scientific terminology.
Measurement and evaluation in human performance. The concept of "outcome". Questionnaires and scales. Choice of the testing methods for the different classes of subjects under study.
The tests. Validity and reliability. Standardization of instructions and safety conditions. Clinical and Physiological testing. Laboratory versus field tests. Criteria for test protocols. Exercise test mode.
The tests for the functional evaluation of athletes: the anaerobic power and capacity, the aerobic power and maximal oxygen consumption, the anaerobic threshold. Isometric, isotonic and isokinetic tests for muscular strength. Flexibility assessment.
The tests for the functional evaluation of sedentary and healthy elderly persons. Cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility.
The tests for the assessment of the health-related physical fitness in chronic diseases and fragility: cardiovascular endurance, mobility, balance, muscular strength, flexibility.
The test for the assessment of physical performance in children and adolescents.
General review. Quick test on acquired knowledge. Exam instructions and simulation Didactic methods
- Frontal lectures and analysis of several videos.
Learning assessment procedures
- The aim of the examination is to evaluate the study of matter, the understanding of the subjects and to verify the level of achievement of the learning objectives stated.
The written test includes 30 multiple choice questions, covering all the topics covered during the course, which includes four possible answers of which only correct, that is: 1 point for a correct answer; 0 points for a wrong answer or no answer.
In order to pass the test, it is necessary to obtain a score equal to or higher than 15/30. The time allowed for the test is 1 hour. It is not allowed to consult texts or use PCs, smart phones, calculators, or other electronic devices.
Further details are provided in the first and last lesson, during which there will be a simulation test. Reference texts
