Training objectives
- To give to the students the basic knowledge of science of metals and metallurgy. Students will be able to work in cultural heritage activities, restoration and to carry out analitycal and microstructural characterization of metallic alloys. Student will be able to applicate and understand the most common analytical methodology applied to metallic materials and alloys.

Course programme
- Extractive metallurgy; crystalline structure of metals; solidification and defects; reinforcing mechanisms of metals and alloys; equilibrium diagrams; iron-carbon diagram; thermal treatments; analytical techniques, optical metallography; microstructures of metallic alloys; iron alloys; copper alloys; precious alloys; corrosion of metals and alloys. Case studies.
Didactic methods
- Lessons with laboratory activities regarding the use of metallographic microscopes, observations and microstructural analysis.
