Training objectives
- The course aims to introduce students to the knowledge of the fundamentals of computer science : hardware and computer software , digitization of information , the essential elements of a local network and the Internet . They will provide the building blocks for the creation of a website in HTML , an introduction to the elements of descriptive statistics and the geographical information systems .
After completing the course the student will acquire the basic knowledge on the functioning of the computer , the ability to process geological data using the spreadsheet besides the knowledge to make a simple website . Prerequisites

Course programme
- - Representation of information - Coding of characters, numbers, images and suoni- calcolatori- hardware architecture of main memory, processor, memory, secondary (6 hours)
- The software, types of licenses - The operating system - Process management, main memory, secondary memory (4 hours)
- Computer networks - Basics of the Internet - The HTML and building web pages (4 hours)
- Principles of Statistics - Descriptive statistics, frequency distributions, indexes of location, measures of dispersion and relative graphic representations - statistical functions using common spreadsheet - Spreadsheet: general, workbook, formatting, formulas, references and absolute, functions, import data from files, sorting, statistical applications, correlation charts. (6 hours)

Learning assessment procedures
- The examination consists of :
- An oral exam with some questions of general computer hardware and computer software , operating systems , encoding information , networks which may be replaced by an ongoing evaluation optional
- In a practical test at the computer with processing of geological data in excel
- Discussion of a site with HTML lenguage Reference texts
