Training objectives
- The course aims at providing students with a wide knowledge of organic chemistry as well as the necessary skills to face more complex problems.
The main knowledge to be acquired will concern the asymmetric synthesis, the synthesis and the reactivity of organic compounds containing Sulfur, Phosphorus, Boron, Silicon and Metal(in particular Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium and Copper),designing and evaluating molecules in complex organic synthesis and synthesis methodologies.
The main skills to be acquired are: predicting the properties and reactivity of organic compounds; knowing how to compare and evaluate different routes of synthesis in order to choose the most appropriate one; knowing how to safely perform laboratory operations for the synthesis and purification of organic compounds, being able to interpret NMR, IR and mass spectra; knowing how to prepare a concise and accurate report of the experiment performed Prerequisites
- Fundamentals of Organic Chemistry: reactyvity of functional groups;the main reaction mechanisms; stereochemisty; main spectroscopic thecniques for the characterization of organic compounds; teoretical and practical knowledge of basic operations of organic lab.

ORGANOMETALLIC CHEMISTRY (8 houres)
Synthesis, reactivity and use of oganoderivatives of litium, sodium, magnesium.
Organocopper derivatives: synthesis, reactivity and their use in organic synthesis,
Highlight synthesis of polyfunctinalized molecules. Didactic methods
- Theoretical lessons. (5 CFU = 40 houres)
Laboratory prastices. (4 CFU = 48 houres) Learning assessment procedures
- The pourpos of the examination is to test the knowledge level of the topics discussed and to assess the ability to use the knowlege gained to adress more complex problems. The final examen, in the form of oral interview, will consist of five questions reguarding the topics covered during the coure and the description of an experiment carried out in the laboratory. In order to take the examen the student must have handed over to the teacher reports of laboratory experiences.
