Training objectives
- To provide knowledge on foundations of elementary mathematics. To present and apply software programs for the teaching of calculus.
Prerequisites
- Basic knowledge of differential and integral calculus, algebra and geometry.
Course programme
- Foundations of arithmetic: Peano's axioms; Natural numbers and set theory; Cardinal numbers. Foundations of geometry: The Cartesian model; Erlanger Programm.
Foundations of analysis: Eudoxus' theory of proportions; Dedekind's and Cantor's theories of the real numbers. Software for the teaching of calculus in secondary education (Derive, ...) Didactic methods
- Frontal lessons. Seminars. Laboratory activities with software for the teaching of calculus (Derive)
Learning assessment procedures
- Oral exam. Computer test on Derive.
