Training objectives
- At the end of the course the student knows the fundamental notions of underground hydrodynamics, of the behaviour of pollutants in the various environmental matrices (air, water, soil and subsoil) and of the transport of pollutants in the groundwater, and emerging environmental problems such as saline intrusion, subsidence, desertification, for the purposes of hydrogeological Risk Assessment, Mitigation and prevention
Prerequisites
- The student who accesses this course must have a good basic preparation thanks to the fundamentals of mathematics and physics. These prerequisites are provided by the respective courses of the three-year bachelor degree.
Course programme
- 1.The water resource and its strategic importance
- Emerging water problems
- Circular economy applied to the water resource
-Sustainable urban drainage systems. Green infrastructures as tools to prevent urban floods and to filter air and rainwater pollution
2 Groundwater flow dynamics, Darcy's law. Transport phenomena of pollutants in groundwater
3 Environmental behavior of pollutants in the different matrices: air, soil and water
4 Saltwater intrusion and prevention / mitigation methods
5 phenomena of soil degradation (desertification, subsidence, salinization) and mitigation of hydrogeological risk
6 techniques of remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater Didactic methods
- The course consists of theoretical lectures
Learning assessment procedures
- The verification of the achievement of the educational objectives takes place through a written test containing questions on the topics covered. To pass the exam it is necessary to acquire a minimum score of 18 out of 30.
