Training objectives
- The course focuses on Anthropology and Etnography in an evolutionary perspective. The period covers the last six millions of years, from the appearence of bipedism in the first hominins up to the Anatomically modern humans with the etnographic variability which typifies our species. The course will treat the great topics of biological and human evolution, the adaptation of the past and present environmental conditions, the etnographic expressions from the most archaic to the historical ones of the last hunter-gatherers and the traditional farmers-breeders. The Anthropological and Etnographic Heritage in Italy provides grounds for education on these topics and developing professionalism to manage scientific communication in natural parcs, eco-museums, natural history museums, anthropological museums.
Prerequisites
- No preparatory lessons are requested. Scientific and humanistic knowledge developed during secondary school will be the optimal background for attending the course.

- 1. Anthropology, ethnology, human adaptation and evolutionary ecology (1h)
2. Pliocene and Quaternary chronology, climatic variability and ecology (1h)
3. Human evolution from african horigin to the diffusion of Homo (2h)
4. Concept of culture and cultural diversity in human evolution (2h)
5. Cultural diversity of hunter-gatherers (1h)
6. Cultural diversity of traditional breeders and farmers (2h)
7. The (palaeo) anthropological and (palaeo) etnographic turism outside Italy (1h)
8. The (palaeo) anthropological and (palaeo) etnographic turism inside Italy (2h)
9. Examples o (palaeo)anthropological and (palaeo)etnographic museums (3h): Museum of Anthropology of the University of Florence, Museo of the Pole, ecomuseums and naturalistic museums. Didactic methods
- Il corso si articolerà alterando lezioni frontali e seminari (15h) e visite esterne a musei, parchi naturali, ecomusei ed eventuali esposizioni permanenti (15h).
Learning assessment procedures
- La prova finale consiste nell’esposizione di una relazione illustrata comprensiva di bibliografia che riguardi un progetto di itinerario paleoantropologico e antropologico – naturalistico possibilmente sul territorio italiano a scelta dello studente. Il progetto dovrà essere esposto in un tempo di 10 minuti tramite una presentazione (.ppt oppure .pdf) di massimo 10 slides. Il voto d’esame si baserà in parte (15 punti) sui contenuti della relazione scritta (correttezza delle informazioni e organizzazione) e in parte (15 punti) su quelli dell’esposizione orale (chiarezza espositiva, capacità di rispondere ai quesiti posti dal docente).
