Training objectives

The course trains diversified skills in the economic area (culture management, cultural policies, economic evaluation of public goods), with inter-disciplinary meanings, especially in relation to urban and regional planning of cultural interventions.

Prerequisites

basic elements of economic thinking. A refresh of issues and concepts will be offered in the course as well.

Course programme

Part I - Cultural policies in Italy and the financing of culture: from the 1980s to the current situation

Part II - Economy and culture management, cultural companies: from museums to the territory
Management in cultural organizations: the basic principles and decisional implications

- Evolution of regulatory aspects and implications for cultural companies in the public sector: main actors

- Museums evolution and management implications.
- Governance in the cultural system: theory and cases
- Management control systems in cultural companies: concepts and applications

Part III - The cities and the territory. The economics of culture in an urban economics and planning perspective

Part IV - The economic evaluation of culture and public goods: use and non-use values, fruition and conservation

LABORATORY MODULE

Urban creativity 1: Experiences of local development and territorial attractiveness: from the recovery of the Covered Market to the reopening of the Verdi Theater. (3 hours)
