Training objectives
- a) Knowledge about the discipline
• learning the fundamentals of epistemology and sociological thought
• knowing the bases of sociological theories and the main research methodologies
• knowing some of the main sociological issues related to the contemporary planetary society
• knowing the main themes of the sociology of tourism
b) Application skills
• Developing skills related to the accuracy and relevance of sociological language
• Developing historical-critical orientation skills
• Developing quantitative and qualitative data analysis capabilities
c) Cross-cutting skills
• Developing capacity for critical analysis of the main contemporary social processes related to tourism
• Developing adequate oral skills relating to the matter of study
• Developing appropriate skills in approaching sociological research, with particular reference to the theme of tourism Prerequisites
- An intermediate level of logical skills and analytical competences are required. This means to be able to approach the reading of a written text of medium difficulty (e.g. a newspaper article) understanding the main contents and managing to report on it with adequate linguistic competence.
Course programme
- 1. The development of social sciences and the foundations of sociological thought
2. Introduction to the Sociology of Tourism
3. Mobility, flows, risk: new paradigms for the contemporary society
4. Responsible and sustainable tourism
5. Social innovation in tourism and the role of new technologies
7. Specific topic: “community-based tourism” Didactic methods
- Conventional classes. The teacher makes the teaching materials and the presentations used during the lessons available on the minisite of the course.
Learning assessment procedures
- The course includes a final written exam, composed of 3-5 open questions with limited space for the answer. The estimated time for the exam is 2 hours. The judgment will take into account the following criteria: correctness and adequacy of the answer, precision, logical and linguistic expressiveness, ability to summarize, calligraphy.
