Training objectives

The course aims to develop the ability of students to perform linguistic and stylistic analysis, by discussing poetic and prosastic texts of Italian literature from XVII to XX century.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of Italian linguistic

Course programme

The course is a series of seminars, consisting in reading and commenting texts of Italian authors from XVII to XX century, from a stylistic and linguistic point of view (for example, Marino, Galileo, Bartoli, Goldoni, Parini, Beccaria, Manzoni, Nievo, Pascoli, D’Annunzio, Svevo, Saba, Montale, Gadda, Primo Levi).

Frontal lessons. Linguistic and stylisitc analysis of literary works of different genders.

Learning assessment procedures

Oral examination : through linguistic and stylistic analysis of the at least two different text red during lessons, each student will have to show that he/she has acquired good skills of textual analysis and of knowledge of the Italian authors. The students will be tested to verify their capacities of analysis (from simple memorization of data to more valuable use of concepts learned).

Cesare Segre’s manual is useful because gives theoretical tools for textual analysis of a literary work. From the Mengaldo’s two books students will prepare the texts analized by the teacher.
The students not attendig the lessons will study ALL the pages from p. 109 to 207 of Attraverso la poesia… and from p.94 to 263 of Attraverso la prosa…
