Training objectives
- Students will acquire a linguistic, communicative and cultural competence of oral and written English (level B1/B2 QCER). At the end of the course students will possess a good knowledge of lessical and pragmatic aspects and will be able to translate short texts from English into Italian without dictionary.
The course aims to achieve:
1) consolidation of techniques and strategies for English language mastering
2) Interactive implementation of production techniques and structures, written and oral performance.
3) strengthening of the lexical range in communication, professional and work setting with modulation of the various registers.
4) implementation of communicative functions and expressions in professional and Academic English.
5) interactive skills and know-how in implementing brainstorming, planning, clustering, mind-mapping, skimming, scanning strategies.
6) production of academic writing, reports, proposals, reviews, storyboards, essays, graphs, pie charts, infographic description and speaking of storytelling presentations, power-points, conferences, pic description, and appropriate register.
7) developing interactive skills for debate, argumentative strategies, critical thinking

Course programme
- Main Topics:
1) ESP English, communication-specific English, relevant functions of written and oral language.
2) brainstorming strategies, planning, clustering, mind-mapping, skimming, scanning storytelling, reporting, reviewing.
3) English language multiplicity and lexical range. Neologisms and the formation of new vocabulary
4) implementation of collocations, phrasal verbs, signposting, target language of communication
5) Production of various written formats of academic writing: essay, report, review, story-board, formal/ professional email, graph/ Infographic description, oral presentations, power-points, story-telling, pic/slide description.
6) interaction in the debate, argumentative strategies, critical thinking Didactic methods

The course is divided into practical lesson (30 hours) by language instructors and theoretical lesson (30 hours) by Professor Dario Del Fante.
Language sessions will be held for smaller groups and students will be divided in different classes. Language sessions aim at providing students with knowledge of grammar and a linguistic and communicative competence at least at B1 level.
The theoretical module is thought to enable students to learn to analyse different textual typologies with attention to morphology, phonology, semantics, lexis and syntax. The focus will also be on interaction, comprehension, writing, and oral production.
The theoretical module will be composed of:
- Lectures - 15 hours
- Individual activites - reading and discussion about materials provided by the lecturer - and Collaborative group activities (peer to peer, reading group) - 15 hours

- The final exam is written and will be available from june 2023. The student will have to demonstrate knowledge of the material presented during the course to successfully pass the exam.
The written part is made of grammar exercises, morphology and a reading comprehension and a transaltion from English to Italian will be asked.
Students who have already reached the B1 level with a valid certificate are exempt from the written test (ask Professor Del Fante first). Reference texts
