Training objectives
- Knowledge of the peculiar characteristics of Roman law from the monarchical to the republican age, with particular reference to the role played in it by women.
Main acquired knowledge: political institutions from the monarchical to the republican age; Roman criminal law; the legal status of women within the family and in political institutions; female identity and exclusion from civitas.
Main skills: ability to critically analyze legal and historical sources; understanding and of the juridical and political constitution of ancient Rome from the monarchical to the republican age; ability to reconstruct the relationship between female identity and citizenship Prerequisites

Course programme
- Analysis of the characteristics of legal and social history from the archaic to the republican age, with particular reference to female status
Didactic methods
- Lectures. Origins and peculiar characteristics of some aspects of Roman legal history are analytically illustrated, with a focus on the role of women. The comparison with ancient, historical and juridical sources is constant. Whenever possible, the lessons are introduced by the examination of documents - distributed to students in photocopies or published online, if necessary - concerning the topic addressed. Students are also provided with a written description of the main contents of the course - illustrated from time to time during the lessons - in the form of an overall summary of the topics covered.
Learning assessment procedures
- Oral test, consisting of a number of open-ended questions appropriate to value the candidate's knowledge, based on the examination program
