Training objectives
- To broaden the knowledge of American literary history, to develop the ability to do close readings, and to increase students’ analytical and critical skills through an in-depth examination of American literature and literary criticism.
Prerequisites
- Knowledge of the English language (minimum level B2+).
Course programme
- AMERICAN LITERATURE II: " Modernism and the Harlem Renaissance."
The course will focus on American Modernism and the Harlem Renaissance, discussing them within their broader literary-historical context. The textual analysis will foreground the politics of representation of the American dream in relation to the critique of modernity and to the critical methodologies of Ethnic Studies and Women's Studies. Francis Scott Fitzgerald (The Great Gatsby, 1925) e Nella Larsen (Passing, 1929) will be among the important authors under examination. Didactic methods

Learning assessment procedures
- Final ORAL exam. It will test the students' knowledge of the texts, of the related critical essays, and of the literary historical context.
For the students of Foreign Languages, the exam will be partly in English.
