Training objectives

Students will reach B2-level skills in French and will be able to analyse and comment a text in French. They will be able to understand complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics and they will be able to express fluently. They will be able to express their opinions and to produce clear and well-organised texts on a wide range of topics. They will acquire a good knowledge of the morphological and lexical structures of French, and they will learn to use lexicographic tools properly.

Prerequisites

Students must have successfully completed French Language I.

Course programme

The lessons held by the native language teachers will allow students to improve on their comprehension and expression skills, through dictations, writing and reading exercises and conversation in French. The lessons held by the titular teacher will focus on the following topics: - morphology; - lexicology; - monolingual and bilingual lexicography; - introduction to language variants (with a special focus on "argot") and especially to the features of spoken language.
Students who do not attend lessons are required
to study the suggested texts (see bibliography below). However,
recordings of past lessons will be made available as a didactic support, at the end of the course.

Didactic methods

Lessons held by the titular teacher (mainly held in French) + lessons held by native language teachers (first and second semester). All course materials and information will be uploaded on Google Classroom (access code for the theoretical module: lnwsepc; access code for “lettorato” 52tujiv).
At the end of the course, recordings will be provided to help not-attending students.

Learning assessment procedures

Three written tests and an oral exam:
1) Written grammar test;
2) Dictation and summary (150 words);
3) Written test on morphology and lexicology;
4) Oral exam (after successful completion of the written tests): conversation on a given topic and questions on the topics of the theoretical course.

Mid-course tests will be organised (attending students only). First test
(December): 1) grammar (Part 1); 2) morphology and lexicology. Second
test (May): 1) grammar (Part 2); 2) dictation+summary. If
both tests are successfully completed, students will be admitted to the oral test.
