Training objectives
- Students will reach C1-level of knowledge of French. Students will be able to understand and analyse texts belonging to several genres. They will also be introduced to translation studies and will be provided tools to produce texts belonging to different genres. They will be able to express fluently and to use language for social, academic and professional purposes. They will be able to produce clear, well-organised texts on complex topics.
Prerequisites
- Students must have successfully completed French language II.
Course programme
- During the lessons held by the native language teachers, students will improve on their oral and written skills. The lessons held by the titular teacher will introduce students to the theory and practice of translation from French into Italian and will provide linguistic tools for the analysis of enunciative and communicative strategies used in texts belonging to several different genres. Students who do not attend lessons are required to study the suggested texts (see bibliography below). However, recordings of past lessons will be made available as a didactic support, at the end of the course.
Didactic methods
- Lessons held by the titular teacher (mostly held in French) and lessons held by native language teachers (first and second semester). All course materials and information will be uploaded on Google Classroom (access code for the theoretical module: sbl6gey; access code for “lettorato”: uy2rthd).
At the end of the course, recordings will be provided to help not-attending students. Learning assessment procedures
- Two written tests and an oral exam:
1) Listening and writing test;
2) Translation test (from French into Italian, with bilingual dictionaries, and from Italian into French, without any dictionary);
3) Oral exam (after successful completion of written tests): students will be required to give an oral presentation of a short text that they will analyse using the notions presented during the course and will answer some questions about the topics of the lessons.
Mid-course tests will be organised (attending students only). First test (December): 1) listening; 2) translation from French into Italian. Second test (May): 1) listening and writing; 2) translation from Italian into French. If both tests are successfully completed, students will be admitted to the oral test. Reference texts
