Training objectives
- Acquisition of the main basis of endocrine and metabolic mechanisms
In particular the student should learn:
¿ Endocrine and metabolic control of endocrine functions
¿ Endocrine modifications responses to external stimuli
¿ Involvement of endocrine system in neoplasia Prerequisites
- The student should already have adequate background knowledge in biochemistry, molecular biology, anatomy, physiology.

- GENERAL PRINCILES IN ENDOCRINOLOGY
SYMPATHOADRENERGIC SYSTEM
HYPOTHALAMIC-PITUITARY AXIS
Somatotroph axis: GH-IGF-1 axis: regulation and impact of exercise.
Gonadal axis: regulation and physiopathology
Thyroid axis: regulation and effect on muscle. Principles of thyroid diseases.
Adrenal axis: regulation; hypo and hyper-cortisolism..
Glucose metabolism homeostasis
Diabetes mellitus: physiopathology, clinical approach, therapy.
Molecular diagnostics of thyroid nodule.
Molecular diagnostics of multiple endocrine neoplasia. Didactic methods
- Frontal lessons
Presentation with audiovisual supports (CD-rom, slides) with texts in italian and/or in inglish.
Interactive problem solving.
Online teaching may be necessary. Learning assessment procedures
- Oral examination
The aim of the exam is to verify at which level the previously described learning objectives have been acquired, by an oral test lasting approx 20 minutes with 2-3 questions,. In addition, the test will evaluate the capacity of connecting the acquired notions. To pass this test it is required to reach at least 18 points out of 30. Reference texts
