Training objectives
- Knowledge about the evolution of the main mechanisms of immunity, as determined throughout the animal phylogenesis.
Prerequisites
- Basic knowledge about the immune system and animal phylogenesis.
Course programme
- The origin of self/non-self recognition mechanisms. Conceptual bases about defense mechanisms against pathogens. The progressive evolution of innate immunity and main mechanisms.
The origin of adaptive immunity mechanisms. The recombination of antigen receptors and the specialization of lymphocytes and antigen-presenting cells. Problems concerning leucocye typing and peculiar adaptations. Environment and immunity: influences, constraints and monitoring. Didactic methods
- Conventional, through theoretical lessons.
Learning assessment procedures
- Oral examen with evaluation up to 30 (and eventual laude).
