Training objectives

LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Demonstrate an understanding of, and skills in critical evaluation of the principles involved in the formulation of medicines
2. Explain the design and formulation of drug delivery systems and apply these principles to patient care.
3.Critically examine scientific data in order to arrive at evidence base conclusions and apply the acquired knowledge in problem solving situations.
4.Relate theory to practice and effectively communicate this information in any area of pharmaceutical science.
5.Demonstrate an understanding of, and skills in critical evaluation of the principles involved in the formulation of medicines

Prerequisites

Basic Pharmaceutical Science

Course programme

This course provides high-level foundation knowledge of the process of translating a new drug, formulation and/or delivery device from a laboratory setting to a final approved product. These contents are those required to students in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology, both at undergraduate and graduate levels, to enrich their knowledge and abilities for then working as pharmacists, but also at pharmaceutical industry, regulatory employees, advisory boards and higher degree students wishing to enter this sector. Major focus will be on drug developed for inhalation.

Self Directed Learning activities.
In Advanced Pharmaceutical technology, this time is split between face-to-face time and personal work and study time ( self-directed). You should regard the outside class and personal study time allocations as a reasonable indication of the amount of time that is expected for satisfactory performance in the unit of study; however you are encouraged to spend additional time in order to perform at a higher standard.
All lectures are given in English

Learning assessment procedures

End of course Multiple Choice Question Exam.
Grading criteria: Pass 50-64%; Credit 65-74%; Distinction 75-84%; High Distinction 85-100%.
Examination language will be English.
